You will not get sued covering any song unless it has copyrighted samples from the original... For instance, if you were to make a remix of a poular hip-hop song, like "I gotta feelin'" By The Black Eyed Peas, you could easily remake the melody, and just make a song like that out of it.. but using the vocals or original song would result in either...
1) Music Removed / Flagged
2) Temporary Ban from Newgrounds/Audio Portal
3) Copyright Infringement Issues / Sued.. (Highly Unlikely).
Just, technically.. as long as you aren't using it for profit, you're fine.
